SCT commemorates Anthony Vidler

Professor Anthony Vidler, whose passing last week we deeply mourn, offered a wonderful mini-seminar and public lecture at SCT in the summer of 2017. The lecture was entitled "The Smooth and the Rough: Surfaces Psychological and Architectural from Adrian Stokes to Rem Koolhaas" and introduced by former Cornell Provost Don Randel. The lecture and public discussions form part of our proud video archive. Tony will be remembered by his incredible scholarship, exemplary pedagogy, great kindness, and unfailing mentorship. In his many distinguished academic roles and in being an active faculty member at SCT, gracing us with his inspiring presence for several weeks that summer, he remained the ever attentive, experienced colleague whose wise counsel and moving pictures, discreetly taken on so many memorable social occasions, will never leave us. We send our heartfelt condolences to his wife, Emily Apter, and their son Nicolas. - Hent de Vries, Former SCT Director
