2027 Director's Welcome

Welcome!

As the new Director of the School of Criticism and Theory, I want to express my deep excitement about this thrilling new responsibility. For over fifty years, SCT has posed the most fundamental questions about language, politics, society, and art. I can’t wait to welcome a new cohort of scholars to grapple with the ideas and practices that govern our world and to engage in the collective work of building alternatives.

In summer 2027, we will gather in beautiful Ithaca, New York to engage in dynamic conversations with three theorists who are also creative artists. We will think about doing theory in a range of media and genres. And we will welcome our first cohort of undergraduates for the opening two weeks of the summer!
SCT has reduced the cost of tuition for the 6-week summer session, thanks to a generous subsidy from the College of Arts and Sciences at Cornell University. And we are offering paid teaching opportunities to a select number of participants who would otherwise struggle to attend. We want to make it possible for everyone with a passion for theory to join us in the summer!

Please feel free to reach out to me with questions: sctdirector@cornell.edu.
